Pre-K and Kindergarten marks the start of an exciting adventure for your child.

In Battle River School Division, our Early Learning programs foster an enthusiasm for learning through a sensory safe play based approach. Children are immersed in a literacy & numeracy rich environment that encourages social interaction and independence.

BRSD programs are open to all children and we are committed to embracing every student in a safe and welcoming environment. 

Battle River School Division offers four-year-old Pre-K prsogramming in Camrose (École Sifton School, Jack Stuart School, Sparling School) and Tofield (C.W. Sears School).

Programs run four half-days per week (Mon. to Thurs.) with hours of operation varying from school to school. Busing is not available for Pre-K programs.

Children with birth dates between Jan. 1, 2020 and Dec. 31, 2020 may enroll in the 2024-2025 program. Please see the Program Unit Funding information to find out more.

Programming for three-year-old children who have met criteria for Early Intervention Support may be available. Contact us for information regarding whether your child may qualify.

BRSD has licensed Pre-K programs. This allows families to access the financial supports coming out of the Federal-Provincial child care agreement.

Families are asked to complete a Pre-K registration form on our website, indicating school of choice. Once this registration is completed, the applicant will receive an email outlining registration verification steps.

Pre-Kindergarten spots are NOT guaranteed until the full registration process has been completed, including receipt of required documentation and payment of the $50 deposit (This deposit will be applied towards the final month’s fee payment).

Your space in the Pre-K program will be held for two weeks from the date the placement offer is made. If you have not registered and not made payment by that time, your placement may be assigned to someone else.

Pre-Kindergarten is a pay-for-use program. A $50 deposit is required at time of registration (this will be applied towards the final month’s fee payment).  Placement in the Pre-K program is not guaranteed until deposit is received.

In the current school year, BRSD received a Government of Alberta Affordability Grant of $75 / month per child and was able to reduce fees for families to $50 / month. In the 2024-25 school year, we believe this grant will remain in place.  If the Government of Alberta Affordability Grant changes, BRSD will let families know. Without this grant, the monthly fee would be $200.

  • Families with a household annual income of less than $180,000 can apply directly to applychildcaresubsidy.alberta.ca for a subsidy of $125 per month. (Some restrictions may apply.)

There are a variety of Kindergarten programs available in Battle River School Division with hours of operation varying from school to school. 

Note: If your child is currently enrolled in a BRSD Pre-K program and will be old enough for Kindergarten next school year, you will be receiving communication from your current school. We are elated to register your child in Kindergarten at your school of choice for the  2024-2025 school year.

We recognize that the Kindergarten and Pre-K schools that your children attend could be different.

When Can My Child Begin Kindergarten?
